It Started with a List

The list was a metadata sheet for Amazon. A way for the algorithm monster that is inherent in all corners of our lives to connect the book to those with similar tastes. Some of them were easy to put down and others require me to wrack my brain. Then I saw the music section. It asked for two songs. Two. I almost screamed.

I, like most authors and writers, use music as a way to help us create our craft. Whether its lo-fi beats, classic rock, or epic movie selections, music has a way to inspire us and push us to our creative best. For the Doppelganger Queen, I used curated playlists for each character. It's a form of Pavlov to help me connect to their core personality. When I have writer's block or brainstorming a new idea, I hit play and listen to what the character's have to say.
